Evaluation
I have been tasked with evaluating Mission Critical SWAT
Software Mobilizing Tactical Operations by Empowering Public
Safety. This is my first time utilizing this type of software
for SWAT operations. Currently we take written notes on scene
then write all of our After Action Reports with Microsoft Word.
This software is web based and uses a database on our department
server. Our IT people with our organization had to install the
software on the server and then grant access for us, it is not
something you have to install on each individual computer.
The software is fully customizable from your department logo
for reports to entering your personnel, vehicles, weapons,
specialized equipment, agents, gear, etc. This makes it have the
ability to fit your particular agency, however if it came with
some standardized equipment, incident types, and weapons already
in the system it would ease the setup process significantly
(See below - this has been
addressed).
Entering all of your agency information, personnel, equipment,
icons, incident types, and categories is very labor intensive.
Once all of the customized information is in place the software
is much easier to use.
When creating a new incident the software automatically
starts a clock and when the incident is over you can end the
incident. There are sections to enter incident overviews,
designate teams and strategies, command posts, location
information, involved parties, and a strategy builder with a
whiteboard function.
Once the incident is over, there is a dedicated place to type
your after action report and to list any injuries. You can
attach files to the report and pictures of the incident
including involved parties.
I have had a couple of questions about the software and the
Mission Critical Software staff has been very helpful and is
always quick to provide a response and a solution.
Overall, I think this software is a useful tool for managing a
critical incident and would recommend it to other special
operation teams.
